XLGAMES has published one official troubleshooting notice for ArcheAge Chronicles, and it is the first thing to read if the game will not start.
The black screen on launch
Some players see a black screen when launching the game. The official advice is to wait. In some cases it takes approximately five to ten minutes for the game to finish loading and move to the next screen.
The studio asks players to wait up to ten minutes without closing the game, even if the screen stays black the whole time. If it persists past ten minutes, the next step is a support ticket through the Customer Support page.
Two practical notes on top of that:
- Do not alt-tab and force-close at minute two. The wait is the fix.
- Do not reinstall before you have waited once. A reinstall costs an hour and does not address a loading screen.
Why a black screen can be legitimate
An MMO's first launch does a lot of work before the first frame: shader compilation, asset streaming and a server handshake. On a machine that meets the minimum spec but not the recommended one, that work takes minutes. The SSD requirement exists for exactly this reason.
Party panel and grouping issues
During the network test, XLGAMES acknowledged problems with the party UI and said fixes were in development. Party play was then improved for the demo: quest sharing for party members, better logic for joining the same channel, and fixes for points-of-interest bugs when exploring together.
If you hit a group problem at launch, check these in order before assuming a bug:
- Are you on the same channel? Parties stay together across zones, but a manual hop is the usual cause of "I cannot see you".
- Does everyone have the quest? Progress is shared inside dungeons, but the quest must be in the log first.
- Is the content instanced? Dungeons and some points of interest are private to you or your party, so a stranger cannot appear inside.
- Relog before you report. The party panel was the specific system being fixed, and a relog clears most desyncs.
Startup checklist for launch night
If the game does not start or runs badly, work down this list. It is ordered by how often each item is the actual cause.
- Confirm the install is on an SSD. The requirement is explicit, and a mechanical drive produces stutter and long loads that look like a different bug.
- Free the disk. 100 GB installed plus headroom for the day-one patch.
- Update the GPU driver. Unreal Engine 5 titles are sensitive to driver branches.
- Check the VRAM budget. A card below the 8 GB minimum will struggle regardless of settings.
- Verify the game files through Steam. Cheaper than a reinstall and fixes the common corrupt-download case.
- Close overlays. Capture and chat overlays are a frequent cause of launch crashes in new MMOs.
- Try borderless windowed if fullscreen misbehaves. Alt-tab behaviour differs between the two modes.
Known rough edges at launch
These are the things the studio has already flagged, so you can recognise them rather than chase them.
| Issue | Status |
|---|---|
| Black screen on launch | Official notice: wait five to ten minutes |
| Party panel problems | Acknowledged after the network test; improvements shipped for the demo |
| Griefing methods in PvP | Acknowledged; fixes said to be in development |
| Gender-locked classes | Confirmed as a launch-build limitation, with options rolling out class by class |
| Brazil server listed under NA | Acknowledged as a temporary menu arrangement |
When to send a ticket
Send one when you have a reproducible problem that survives a relog and a file verification: a crash at the same point, a quest that cannot be completed, a purchase that did not arrive, or a black screen past ten minutes. Include your character name, server, the exact time, and what you were doing.
Do not send a ticket for a queue, a lag spike, or a boss you cannot beat. Those are launch-week conditions, not bugs.
If the game runs but feels wrong
Performance problems that are not crashes usually come down to three things: upscaling settings, crowded areas, and VRAM. Settings and performance covers the levers in order of impact, and system requirements tells you which tier your machine belongs to.
If the game runs fine but you cannot win a fight, that is not a technical problem. Combat basics is the page that fixes it.
